Want to start your own blog but don’t know how? It may seem difficult to start your own WordPress blog, but really it is very easy to do. All you’ll need is about 20 minutes, a credit card and a domain name. Here a some simple steps that will help you to start up your blog.
Step 1: Find a host
Your site is going to need server space and a web host will provide that for you. Free services can be used, but a self-hosting service is going to be so much better. Bluehost is the most recommended hosting service by WordPress and here are some reasons why it is so highly recommended:
- easy-to-use control panel
- premium customer service that is reliable and usable
- One account that has unlimited websites, email accounts and domains
- 24/7 technical support
- Install WordPress with one click, provided by MOJO Marketplace
- 30 day guarantee if it isn’t what you want.
Bluehost is a self-hosting web host. This means that you can better customize your blog and grow into something bigger. A self-hosting sites allows for advertising, where-as a free hosting site will not permit that. A free hosting web host is best if the blog is made for personal reasons, such as sharing photos with family, with no intention of expanding the blog.
If you are starting a blog with bluehost go to bluehost.com (or click the image below) and click on the Get Started Now Button.
This will take you to a page that will ask you to select your plan.
Step 2: Choose your domain name
Once you have selected your plan you will be asked to choose a new domain name. A domain name is what you will see in the url and will be the name of your website. For example mynaturalfamily.com is my domain name. You’ll want to have many ideas for a domain name. There are a lot of websites and many of your ideas may be taken already. Here are some good tips for choosing a name:
- Make it easy to spell and say
- Don’t include numbers, obscure terms, confusing strings of words or hyphens
- Use .com if possible
- Be creative, try a phrase if you can’t find a name
- Use key words
- Use your name if you can’t think of anything
- Make sure it is something you like
- Make it something that people will understand
If you already have a domain name somewhere else enter it on the right. Entering an already made domain won’t mess anything up, it will only identify your account. once you have a domain name that will suite you, press the next button and fill out your account information. Make sure to use a working email because it will be where the login information will be sent.
Step 3: Choose hosting package and install WordPress
After filling out account information, you’ll be asked to choose a hosting package and to select any other add-ons you may like. Services are priced at 12, 24 or 36 moth terms. The longer of a term the cheaper the hosting package will be. It is not necessary to accept any of the additional offers but has been recommended to add Domain Whois Privacy(this will keep all your personal information private).
Once signed up and able to log into your account you can start installing WordPress. Log into your account and click the WordPress icon under Website Builders.
Choose which domain to install WordPress, this will be the domain name you chose for yourself. On the next page check the “show advanced options” box and choose an Admin Username and Password. Check that you have read and understand the terms and click install. An email will be sent to you, giving your login information.
Congratulations! You have now successfully created a blog and can start making it look how you want!
